Breathwork Tools + Breathwork Habits

In our very first, The Breathwork Hour, last night we share  some of our Breathwork Tools, including one of our favorites,  Stop, Drop + Breathe. I wanted to share it here, too, and so you can experience it.

Checking out the practice is a great first step. You'll watch or listen and get the hang of it to be able to do it on your own.

And then what?

There are a few other things to put in place to build a breathwork habit.

Because one thing I can absolutely PROMISE, life will come rushing back in.

You forget. I forget.

We ALL forget.

Willpower cannot override forgetting!

I have tried.

I am GERMAN and even that flavor of willpower cannot override my ADHD brain's ability to forget.

STEP 1. Visual Reminders
So the next step is to have specific, and fun, prompts to help you remember.

Here's where you get creative...

What can you have AT YOUR DESK, right in front of you, on your screen, keyboard, on the floor below you, hanging over your head to help you remember?

Here are a few of my many reminders...

  • Blue marbles: I have a lovely Myrtle plant, in the photo, at my desk and the soil is covered in brilliant blue marbles, so I remember to breathe. (Want a marble? Let me know, I will mail you one.)
  • A yoga mat under my chair: Yes, it gets in the way when I am moving my chair. No I am not on the floor doing yoga at my desk. Yes, that tiny annoyance is a reminder to breathe.
  • A Soul Collage card: I made this card ( also in the phot above) of this beautiful woman covered in brilliant yellow flowers in deep rest to remind me of my highest calling and capacity to be "Grounded and Grateful Retreat Alice." This illustrates the bigger why I am committed to to the practice of breathwork. I want a balanced nervous system not so I can be better, but so I can be me.  (If you want to know more about making Soul Collage cards contact Kat Burkhardt at k@kolorfulkat.com, our dear friend and amazing artist and breathwork facilitator and life guide.
  • A Koshi Chime: This chame hangs on the shelf behind my desk and the sound is like liquid breath to me. You can get one here. I have the EARTH one and I love it.
I'll stop there. Though please know, I have many more reminders. You cannot have too many reminders.

STEP 2: Commitment and Accountability

The second critical part of building a habit is a COMMITMENT plus a system of tracking that commitment.

We got you covered there too.

Here is a link to a 30-Day: Stop, Drop  +  Breathe Log Sheet. You will print it out and put it on your desk. (Yeah, another reminder!) On that sheet you'll also see a way to let us know you completed your 30 day practice and we'll send you a super cool MAGNET as a prize!

STEP 3: Community Support
This could be just one other person or also a group of peolple with a similare interest and committment. Having someone else in it with you exponentially keep you going with encouragement. I won't cite the studies here but they prove over ane over again we are better with habits when we are doing it together.

Check out our Events page and join us next month at The Breathwork Hour. I promise you'll be glad you did.
